GOVERNMENT OF NIUE ESTABLISHES HONORARY CONSULATE IN TOKYO, JAPAN
The Government of Niue is pleased to announce the appointment of Jayson Vemoa as the Honorary Consul of Niue to Japan in Tokyo, effective July 10, 2024, for a two-year term.
The office of the Honorary Consul of Niue in Japan was officially opened during a simple ceremony on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at the headquarters of the Japan-Niue Friendship Association in the Aobadai Building, Tokyo. This volunteer group is dedicated to fostering cultural exchanges and friendships between Japan and Niue.
This position will provide representation and support for Niue in Japan, advocate for Niue interests, foster diplomatic relations, and address matters pertinent to Niue citizens in Japan. Mr. Vemoa has significantly contributed to enhancing bilateral relations through his role as Founder and Director of the Japan-Niue-Friendship Association since it was established in March 2016 and being part of Niue Delegations to attend the Pacific Island Leaders meetings (PALM) with Japan. We thank him for his dedication and acknowledge his wife and two lovely daughters for supporting him in his new role.
This significant development marks a new chapter in enhancing the friendly relations between Japan and Niue. The opening of the office was presided over by Hon. Dalton Tagelagi, Premier of Niue and Minister of Foreign Affairs and it was blessed by Reverend Navy Salatielu, President of the Ekalesia Niue. The Government of Japan and Ministry of Foreign Affairs was represented by Ambassador Toshihisa Takata, Ambassador for PALM10 and the first the first Japanese Ambassador to Niue. The ceremony highlighted the commitment of both nations to strengthen diplomatic ties and foster mutual cooperation.
In his remarks, the Premier stated, "It is with immense pride and gratitude that I stand before you this evening to mark a historic moment for Niue: the opening of our first honorary consulate in Japan. This achievement is a testament to the collaborative efforts and unwavering dedication of many remarkable individuals."
The Premier of Niue, Hon. Dalton Tagelagi, expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MoFA) especially the Japanese Embassy in Wellington for their support in establishing the Honorary Consul of Niue to Japan. He especially acknowledged those who also assisted Niue in making the Honorary Consul a reality Mr. Taiichi Fox, Entrepreneur who has always been a great friend of Niue, Mr. Harry Enomoto, Co-founder & Director of Japan-Niue Friendship Association for sponsoring the space for the new office, Mr. Frank Sioneholo, Head of Economics Planning & Trade and Mrs. Emi Hipa, Director of Foreign Affairs and her team.
